This elegant and rare Chinese potiche features a classic Oriental design. In the absence of specific details such as signatures or stamps, we must analyze its distinctive manufacturing features. The pot showcases a glossy, reflective black surface, achieved through a high-quality vitrified glaze—a technique often used in the production of fine Chinese ceramics. The vertical ribbing that decorates the surface suggests a style of craftsmanship that can be traced to the late Qing period, between 1910 and 1912, when the Xinhai Revolution brought an end to China’s two-thousand-year imperial history and marked the beginning of modern China. However, in the realm of porcelain, there was no immediate break with tradition. Chinese artisans continued to produce works that were admired both domestically and internationally. The production factories maintained their use of ancient techniques, rooted in millennia of tradition. In this potiche, the dominant black color, unusual in common ceramics, indicates a less typical production compared to the classic blue-and-white porcelain. The use of black glaze points to an object of prestige likely intended for special ceremonial occasions. Regarding its place of production, Jingdezhen stands out as a likely origin, having been considered the capital of Chinese ceramics for centuries, particularly for custom-made and uniquely designed porcelain. The design of the potiche is especially distinctive: the lid, with its knob-like feature, and the fluted body lend a sense of symmetry and classicism, typical of Chinese potiches that were historically used to store spices and tea. The interior, deliberately left unglazed as in ancient times, is designed to highlight the contrast with the pot’s glossy black exterior. Overall, this potiche is a striking object with great aesthetic appeal, a superb example of craftsmanship, a small work of art, and a historical testament to a captivating era. The potiche is in good condition. Measures diameter cm.35, height cm.52 .For all our shipments, we use special packaging materials (wooden crates, styrofoam, etc.) to ensure maximum protection and safety of the objects. less
