Set of six Murano glass tumbler glasses made A Canne, in a great combination of hues of blue and a red.
The mezzo ritorto pattern is a special feature of this design.
The traditional technique of straight canes like Gio Ponti pieces here receives an additional work. The glass before blowing is heated again to get to the right softness. Ritorto is when the straight design is twisted to make a spiral, in Muranese is also called mena'. Menare is to be translated as to lead. In this case the canes close to the punty rod are kept straight with a play of glass temperature.
The effect is captivating as the design is straight at the bottom and generates a swirl at the mouth, giving a play of crossed over transparencies.
The colors chosen are aquamarine and various shades of light blue separated by an unique red glass rod. Once picked up, it becomes irresistible to rotate them against the light to rejoice in the play of colors as in a kaleidoscope.
It's a technique called "piera senza vetro", in English roll up technique where the glass is rolled up without a blob of glass. Each glass cane and elements have to be perfectly fused to the next, this is called rimarginatura, and then passed on the counter punty (pontello) and hand opened. Canes are not flattened and they keep a lens effect that makes a great play with light. The blowing is limited as well as the stretching with a more defined design and intensity of colors.
Every piece is a masterpiece and a table set with these tumblers will become attractive and make it a point of conversation. Price is per unit so any quantity can be purchased. Transport becomes complimentary on a set of 12. Tumblers are signed.
The very slight difference in height and diameter denote its highly craftsmanship and the free form made without use of moulds.
Measurements Height: 12 cm approx. Diameter: 8,7 cm approx. less
