Contemporary Glaoui style flat-weave Moroccan runner rug with raised knotted pile and Chadoui/Zanafi woven details. Hand-made from 100% hand-spun wool and 100% natural dyes by Glaoui tribe weavers of the Middle Atlas region of Morocco. Extremely durable. Great for high traffic areas - the most durable rug you will find!
The area of Morocco where this rug was made is one of the few places where traditional dying processes using plants and tree nuts, and also hand-spinning wool are still in use. To find a contemporary rug made using hand-spun wool and natural plant dyes is very rare as the time and cost for production is higher and there are fewer weavers who are skilled at these techniques than in the past.
Colors: Cream/off-white/Natural white base with natural brown wool and plant dyed blue, yellow, rose, gold details.
* Size: 7' x 2'4" ft
* Type of rug: Contemporary Glaoui Moroccan Wool Runner Rug
* Materials: 100% hand-spun wool warp and weft. All natural dyes.
* Pile: 1/4" flatweave with details of short 1/2" knotted pile
* Finishings: Fringe on bottom
Contemporary Moroccan rugs are new rugs handmade in the same manner as they have been made for hundreds of years. Unlike vintage rugs which were confined by traditional sizes of personal looms found within the homes of the Amazigh (Berber) women, many contemporary rugs are made outside of the home in collective community spaces where women from the village will come to work together on new pieces. This is a great opportunity for women to earn money as well as support the tradition of hand making rugs so that it continues to be passed on through generations. less
