A true icon of style, Soriana, characterized by its abundant curves, was designed in 1969 by Afra and Tobia Scarpa and received a Compasso d'Oro the following year. In the 1960s and 1970s, Cassina was a precursor in the way it experimented with innovative materials to create new forms and develop its projects with the most advanced solutions.
Soriana is still among the most coveted upholstered furniture for interior design projects around the world.

The architect and designer Tobia Scarpa graduated in 1969 from the University of Venice and in the same year won the "Compasso d'Oro" award for his "Soriana" armchair designed for Cassina. Since then he has received many other design awards and several of his projects are also exhibited in some of the world’s leading museums, including his chair "Freedom" As an architect he worked for both public and private clients, including the Benetton Group for which he designed the industrial area and the production plants in Castrette di Villorba (Treviso). Even today, Benetton’s factories are considered an example of aesthetic and functional excellence, one of the most exciting pieces of industrial architecture in the world.
