Mario bellini cab 412 chair for cassina “a new kind of chair, made entirely of saddle-hide, often cloned today.” this is how mario bellini describes the best-selling cab chair, developed in the golden age of italian design and today an iconic piece in the i contemporanei collection. Cab is the first saddle-hide chair with a free-standing structure, inspired by the relationship between the skeleton and the skin. The individual pieces of saddle-hide are stitched together and the upholstery is then molded to a steel skeleton and closed with zippers, like a custom-tailored suit. A modern, versatile, iconic piece, cab furnishes the most prestigious hotels and luxury restaurants, executive board rooms and congress centers with a varied product line in a palette of colors. Structure tubular steel frame, painted black. Seat shell in black plastic. Padding flexible cold processed polyurethane foam. “a new kind of chair, made entirely of saddle leather, often cloned today.” this is how mario bellini describes the best-selling cab chair, developed in the golden age of italian design and today an iconic piece in the i contemporanei collection. Cab is the world’s first free-standing saddle-hide chair, inspired by the relationship between the skeleton and the skin. Its upholstery is made up of 21 parts in saddle leather that are individually die-cut and then undergo 22 processes by hand. Only after a lengthy shaving procedure to thin the parts to be joined, are the cut parts stitched together. The upholstery is then hand-molded to the steel skeleton and closed with zippers, like a custom-tailored garment. Modern, versatile, iconic, cab furnishes the most prestigious hotels and luxury restaurants, executive board rooms and congress centers with a varied product line in a palette of colors.
