The metal components of the fixture are original 50s/60s. When purchased it was in a distressed (age) polished brass finish; the center ring (wiring to arms) is not brass but was plated as such. I had the piece dis-assembled, stripped & re-plated polished nickel, which is a live finish--so tarnishes. The piece was re-wired post plating & has been in storage for some time, which is why you see some light corrosion on the ring. I ran fine steel wool over the entire piece to restore brightness. Your option to professionally polish & seal -or- change finish to brass. I do not see any dings or damage to any of the components though no doubt there are some light scratches on the piece.

Very cool authentic 1950s/60s Sputnik ceiling fixture with 16 arms and a center pierced metal downlight shade. More of an unusual style for a sputnik with a bit of an industrial flair. Would be fantastic in a kitchen setting! Body is a wheel & spoke design with arms that vary in length from 6 3/4"L to 9 3/4"L. Overall measurements are 23"L x 27 3/4"D (socket to socket, wider with bulbs). There is no manufacturers sticker on the original rounded ceiling canopy but this looks very similar to period Lightolier fixtures. The pierced metal downlight will cast subtle twinkly shadows downward, while also offering additional practical task lighting, if desired.
The finish on this was originally polished brass but was stripped & re-plated polished nickel. As that finish is considered "live" the piece has a more mellow antique nickel appearance. less
