Hand-knotted in wool and originating in Turkey circa 1950-60, this 2x9 vintage Zeki Müren runner rug is an exciting and rare addition to the Rug & Kilim Mid-Century Pasha Collection—a line devoted to this artist’s unique influence, and such gorgeous finds like this piece for its unexpected, playful design.
On the Design:
This eclectic piece enjoys a dextrous geometric pattern in polychromatic diamond lattices in myriad shades of beige-brown, green, salmon pink, and blue. Keen eyes will also note a subtle inspiration from cubist concepts, and admire this artist’s creative interpretation therein. The sheer attention to variation and movement created therein is exemplar of Müren’s most distinguished works. That marriage of a sense of whimsy and a smart approach to classic design principles is one of the celebrated calling cards in Müren’s rare works. Few in his era, if any, had such a deviation to color variation like that in this comfortable rug and its brilliant sense of movement.
