as creative director of ljungs industrier, malmö, he designed this sonett armchair in 1954.
our very rare edition with teak armrests is maybe the best seating to read a newspaper, drink your cocktail, or scroll your favorite home decor accounts on instagram.
alf svensson (1929-1992) was one of the most influential swedish designers of the mid-20th century. He was particularly active from the 1950s to the 1970s, creating storage furniture, tables and seating for several influential brands including fritz hansen and dux.
these include the contour lounge chair (1950s) and the te-ve chair (1953) for ljungs industrier, the congo easy chair (1954) for haga fors, the modular domus 1 chair (1955) for dux, initially designed for the h55 exhibition in helsinborg, sweden and a high-backed recliner (1957) for fritz hansen.
svensson also designed tables for tingströms, lighting for bergboms and storage furniture for bjästa.
svensson's designs for swedish furniture manufacturer dux are arguably his best known. In particular, his collection of armchairs and lounge chairs - known as the form series - which was designed in the 1960s and 1970s. Other designs include the galaxy chair (1968 with yngve sandström), which has a shell made of molded plastic on a white aluminum swivel structure and the swivel contourette roto chair (1960s).
like many of his scandinavian peers, svensson used traditional and natural materials such as teak, rosewood and leather to create modern scandinavian-style furniture characterized by elegant and functional simplicity.
his works are held in the collections of several museums, including the national museum in stockholm and the museum of art and design in new york. I have official proof of authenticity such as vintage catalogs,
designer records,
or other literature sources and take full responsibility for any authenticity issues arising
