This Frank Stella very rare vintage 1968 Mid Century Modernist lithograph print custom framed exhibition poster " Star of Persia II " 1967, is an incredibly special and unique piece to add to your collection.
The Modernist lithograph print poster is published by 4. Documenta Kassel. Printed in 1968 in Germany by Barenreiter - Druck Kassel in an unnumbered limited edition on the occasion of the " 4. Documenta " exhibition. It features a Mid Century Modernist artwork image originally created by Stella in 1967 titled " Star of Persia II ".
This is a rare opportunity for true Frank Stella and Mid Century Modernism fans and collectors as this coveted image lithograph print poster with special subtle metallic silver ink details, is long out of print and very scarce to find.
Frank Stella ( 1936 - 2024 ) is an American painter, sculptor, and printmaker noted for his work in the areas of Minimalism and Post-Painterly Abstraction. Working since the 1950's, Stella has created a Modernist style Abstraction and singular creative voice that is unique unto himself. He is heralded for creating Abstract paintings that bear no pictorial illusions of psychological or metaphysical references in 20th Century Art. Artworks by Stella are included in the collections of many of the world's most prestigious museums.
The Documenta is highly regarded as one of the most important exhibitions of Contemporary Art, drawing worldwide attention and interest. Founded in 1955 by artist and art educator at The Art Academy in Kassel, Arnold Bode. During the Nazi regime, Germany was cut-off from developments in the international art world. To reestablish that connection, Bode created this important exhibition of Avant-Garde Art in Germany.
The " 4. Documenta " 4th installment of the exhibition in 1968 featured a selection of Pop Art, Minimalism, Color Field Painting, Op Art, and Post-Painterly Abstraction from the most influential artists of the time including Josef Albers, Jim Dine, Jean Dubuffet, dan Flavin, David Hockney, Robert Indiana, Ellsworth Kelly, Yves Klein, Sol LeWitt, Roy Lichtenstein, Morris Louis, Robert Rauschenberg, Frank Stella, and Andy Warhol among many others.
The vintage Mid Century Modernist lithograph print framed exhibition poster measures 23" W X 33 3/8" H X 1" D.
It is custom framed with UV protective plexiglass in a Contemporary Modern charcoal pewter gray satin finish metal frame molding, with an attached hanging wire on the reverse back side for easy wall installation.
It is in excellent condition. The poster print is in excellent vintage condition consistent with age, light signs of handling, and some light minor surface wear.
