"The Most Happy" is a bright, colorful and sculptural oil painting by contemporary artist, Monica Shulman. Set against a bright blue and white background and punctuating her rhythmic, gestural marks and impasto technique with varying shades of deep purple, lavender, reds and blues, Monica creates a vivid painting that will add dimension and a pop of color to any space.
Using oil paint, this painting marries Monica's textured, sculptural abstract aesthetic with her love of florals. Monica often includes bright, colorful florals in her paintings and she created this painting after a visit to rose gardens on a recent trip to the English countryside outside of London. Much of Monica's work is inspired by elements of nature and she absolutely fell in love with the varying colors and types of roses and other flowers that she discovered while exploring different gardens.
As an artist, Monica studies the concept of excavation and discovery and she explore consistent themes of change and evolution using various mediums including oil paint, acrylic paint, oil stick, ink, house paint, gesso and pastels. She uses heavy sculptural layering to explore the dynamic tension between the unintentional stroke and the meticulously planned one. Together, these gestures create connection and movement, and her intuitive mark-making reflect her spirit and the humanness of her experiences.
Monica has been featured in various publications including Popular Photography, Create Magazine, the Wall Street Journal, and the Huffington Post. In 2019 she was named "Best Artist" in Westchester by Westchester magazine. She is a member of the National Association of Women Artists. Her work has been shown at the American Academy of Arts and Letters in New York City, Photo LA, Art Market Hamptons, PULSE Art Fair, the National Arts Club in NYC and the New York Mercantile Exchange, among others less
