Mogens Valeur first studied with Peter Rostrup Boyesen, and later attended the Copenhagen Art Academy. He subsequently trained at the Danish Royal Academy under Vilhelm Lundstrøm before moving, first to Italy and Morocco and then to India and Sri Lanka where, funded by his prestigious Nielsen scholarship (1952), he lived and painted for three years. From the age of 35 was able to earn a living from his art. He built his own house and studio in Tibirke, and converted a farm into a summer house in Sønderhå.
Over the course of a long career, Mogens Valeur exhibited widely and with success, including at the Charlottenborg Institute, and his work can be found in private and public collections.
Of his paintings, the artist said, ‘My pictures are to be experienced with the eyes. I consider them failures if they cannot speak for themselves. A good picture speaks directly to the mind without any intermediary of theories or words.’
