The complex beauty inherent to landscapes and natural forms inspired clear and concise thinking. In this hanging scroll, outstretched branches are dotted with plum blossoms, emblems of winter and symbols of longevity. Guided by the gestural extensions of the calligraphic branches, the artist followed broad initial brushstrokes with delicately painted stems and flowers to create a carefully balanced composition.
