This tabouret, dating from the late 19th to early 20th century, exemplifies the elegance of the Louis XV style with its beautifully carved wooden design. It is rare to find an antique piece that is both lovely and functional without any upholstery. It feels like a shame to cover up its natural beauty.
The stool features a delicately scalloped skirt on all sides, which is intricately adorned with carved shells and flanked by acanthus leaves. Its four cabriole legs are connected by a gracefully curved X-form stretcher, which not only enhances the stool's stability but also adds to its visual appeal.
The piece exhibits a well-maintained patina with hints of gold gilding on certain details, and the seat is covered in hessian fabric, supported by a sturdy coil and tie construction. The one last spring tie has been left exposed on the seat for a complete picture of its construction. The dust cover beneath is in great condition and blends beatifully with the hessian on the seat. The legs are further embellished with intricate volutes at the knees, reflecting the meticulous craftsmanship typical of this era.
Notably, the wood above the apron has been cleaned and oiled, though it still bears the holes left by previous upholstery tacks, offering a glimpse into the various fabrics that have adorned this stool over time. A horsehair topper has been removed but is preserved for the buyer, allowing for potential reupholstering original materials.
This stool is not only functional but also serves as a decorative piece that can enhance the aesthetic of any room. Its timeless design and versatility make it an ideal choice for those looking to incorporate classic French elegance into their home décor. less
