Discover the striking beauty of this rare, vintage samot terracotta vase, crafted by renowned Hungarian ceramist Béla Mihály (1930-2001). With its unique teal and black color palette, the vase features a bold, amorphous tear shape and rich textural detailing that exemplifies Mihály’s mastery of form and color. A true statement piece for collectors and art lovers alike.
28 x 24 x 23cm. In pristine vintage condition.
Béla Mihály ( 1930-2001) was a self taught artist, participating in 13 world exhibitions with his 650 pieces of ceramics. He introduced ikebana bowls to Hungary in the early 1960s. His flower compositions combined with ceramics were a great success. In 1995, he donated his unique ceramics to his hometown, which are the carefully guarded treasures of the Pál Vágó Local History Collection.
His career as a theatrical set designer began with Vera Jákó, who ordered floral decorations for her show to be arranged into Béla’s magnificent creations. He demonstrated his talent at countless national and international venues and events: the Christmas celebrations of the Parliament, the weddings of the House of Habsburg, Interoperettes, the Crown Podium, the Beauty Queen elections, events of the Maltese Charity Service, the preparation of bouquets for Queen Elizabeth, EBEI meetings, Hélia Hotel, Musica Hungarica events, etc.
On his 65th birthday, President Árpád Göncz awarded Béla Mihály the “Small Cross of the Order of Merit of the Hungarian Republic”.
He died unexpectedly on November 27, 2001, at the age of 72. less
