This set of two very rare vintage early 1950's Art Deco style Paint by Number " Birds of Paradise " framed paintings is an incredibly special and unique set to add to your collection.
The Mid Century Modern original vintage paintings are created in the early 1950's by an unknown artist. The paintings on canvas board were made using an authentic vintage Paint by Number kit. They feature beautiful Art Deco style images of exotic Birds of Paradise elegantly perched in tree branch settings in a gorgeous multicolor vintage palette.
Paint by Number kits are self-contained painting sets, designed to facilitate a pre-designed image. The sets included brushes, tubs of paint with numbered labels, and a canvas board printed with borders and numbers. The painter selects the color corresponding to one of the numbers then uses it to fill in a delineated section on the canvas board, in a manner similar to a coloring book.
The kits technique first patent was filed in 1923, and were invented, developed and marketed beginning in 1950 by Max S. Klein, an engineer and owner of The Palmer Painting Company in Detroit, Michigan. The overwhelming public response induced other companies to produce their own versions of Paint by Number. The Palmer Paint Company Paint by Number archive now resides in the collection of The Smithsonian Museum of American History. Several early designs for Paint by Number by Max Klein are included in The Department of Architecture and Design collection of The Museum of Modern Art, New York.
Paint by Number artworks are an emblematic keepsake of The Mid Century Modern Art Movement and American cultural oeuvre of new creative design and decoration.
The vintage Paint by Number framed paintings each measure 10 1/2" W X 14 1/2" H X 3/4" D.
They are period custom framed in their original vintage Modernist style variegated off-white cream and gray-black textural detailed finish wood frame moldings, with an attached hanging wire on the reverse back side for easy wall installation.
The set of 2 are in excellent vintage condition consistent with age, light signs of handling, and light to moderate minor wear to the frame moldings. Please see photos for condition reference. They are now being offered here for an excellent price. less
