A 2016 honey locust turned wooden vase by the American artist Mike Nathal. Signed and dated to the underside, the smooth surface of the vase is complimented by the subtle hints of blue stone and acrylic inlaid to the natural cracks of the wood.
Mike Nathal worked as a metallurgical engineer for NASA for over thirty years. During the final years before his retirement, Nathal began teaching himself wood turning and carving as a hobby turned business. Nathal prioritizes working with reclaimed materials that would have otherwise been used as firewood. Inspiration for his designs come from various ancient techniques and styles. less
