The item is in used, antique condition. The candlesticks are not exactly alike in that the wear on the finish differs between the two. See photos of the bases of both and the "leaves" at the base of the wax candles. The item is unchanged in condition since purchase in 2003. The finish and parts are stable.

Pair of 18th Century Carved Wood and Silver Leaf Candlesticks, circa 1780, with wiring, shades and wax sleeves. Shades are custom silk citron yellow and bright robin's egg blue. On/off switch incorporated into cord which was run down the backside of the candlesticks when they were custom wired. The candlesticks were not drilled to run wiring down the center. They were purchased in 2003 for $1500 for the pair and were distressed at that time - no additional distressing has occurred since the purchase. Very versatile as bedroom or entry or living room table lamps. Age marks include: some missing "leaves" on the top of the candlesticks where they meet the wax sleeve and some repaired damage to the wood on the backside of one lamp (see photos). Use lower wattage light bulbs to protect the silk shades. Finial is not original but created to compliment the candlesticks when the wiring was added. Base is padded with (aged) felt to protect surface below.
