Vintage, art deco, table/desk lamp with a global-like shade, and sculpture of an antelope/gazelle, made of bronze, patinated cast metal, known as "spelter", resting on a marble base.
in the past, spelter has often been overlooked by art dealers in preference to bronze. However, pieces of spelter, dating from the early twentieth century to the present day, are now much sought after, for the beauty of their finished patina. When spelter is cast, it is produced without flaws, and creates sculptural works that are perfect in form. The quality of spelter is in its casting. After casting, the body of the work it can be painted or gilded. This exact science of production has pushed spelter to be as collectable as bronze because of the higher quality of finish.
the base of the piece itself, is made of a polished, cream-colored marble, with lovely, light brown, slightly golden colored veining. The antelope (or gazelle), is in an elegant, resting position on one side of the piece. It carries a gorgeous patina of time, with dark to golden hues, that are also slightly iridescent, depending on the light or angles in which it is viewed, the beautiful, pale/light-blue, opaline/milk-glass shade, is typical of the period (see photos) with three clips on the inside that hold it into position, and rests upon a brass-colored cup. It functions with a small, bayonet light bulb (see photos) and comes with its original "on-off" switch and eu plug (see photos.) underneath the base, are four, felted pads to protect any given surface (see photo.)
piece is overall very good, original and vintage condition, with light marks, signs of age and previous use commensurate with time, as well as patina of time, on the overall structure, marble base, antelope, body of the shade, and cup (see photos.) light signs of age and previous use on the top edge of the shade, but no cracks or chips on the body. Some light areas of age/ slightly faded areas of patina on the body of the gazelle, signs of age and previous use on the cup beneath the shade, but nothing that affects the functionality of the light (see photos.)
this piece is solid and stable. It has only been gently cleaned, with respect its original patina of time.
all photos taken in natural, indoor light, so colors may vary, based upon brightness, angles and perspective in which they are viewed.
