Salvaged dropcloth canvas remnants are assembled and patched together to create this resourceful, eye-catching sustainable artwork. This artwork is made entirely of repurposed and leftover materials and ships ready to hang. The artwork is titled and signed on back and includes a certificate of authenticity.
The production of art unfortunately includes the potential for a fair amount of waste. Inspired by the wine industry where second labels enable greater consumption of harvested grapes, visual artist Stacey Warnix produces an entire line of artworks called “Seconds” that are created with by-products from her primary studio practice. Borne of a desire to minimize waste ending up in landfills or water supplies, things like abandoned paintings, leftover paint, fabric remnants, and used dropcloths, get productively repurposed into “second-level” paintings that are visually distinct from her primary originals, allowing an opportunity to experiment with novel concepts that are not part of her primary practice.
About the artist...
Stacey Warnix is an American lyrical abstraction painter who uses gestural methods to create large-scale paintings, layering mixed media pigments and collage over raw textiles. Her paintings explore the experiential affect of nuanced color and scale, using disparate materials and layered textures to subtly shift the perception, light reflectivity, and luminosity of her landscape-inspired color. less
