This oversized red toned gestural diptych painting ships ready to hang in a white float frame. The painting consists of two separate panels wrapped in Belgian linen that are framed together in a single frame to create an oversized painting. The painting ships ready to hang with attached heavy duty hardware and is signed and titled on the back side.
Historically, Stacey mainly painted deconstructed landscapes. In 2018, following a lifelong obsession with flowers, she started experimenting with oversized floral inspired abstracts and, during the quarantine of 2020, began morphing the two concepts together. She continues to blend landscape and floral principles together in what tends to feel like, to her, a surreal dreamscape, loosely tied to vague, romanticized versions of places she once visited during extensive world travels. This artwork exhibits a migration back closer to landscape, inferring travelogues of distant, muddied memories, imagined from a slightly aerial view — close enough to appreciate the sense of place, but ultimately detached from the now-distant experience.
Grounded on raw Belgian Linen with its nubby, imperfect, and unpredictable texture, initial marks immediately stain the surface, and she embraces and connects the elements while working her way forward. Despite the relatively soft appearance of her finished paintings, the application methods are surprisingly rough and abrasive, including intentional distressing of areas to reveal contrasting underlayers, and it is not uncommon to find brush hairs left behind in evidence of the toil. less
