Phil Capen was born in 1940 and grew up in the northern Michigan, where he learned the basics in art from his father. In 1970 he began studying under Charles Hawes (AWS) in the West Indies. During that same year he launched his career as an artist. Having formerly pursued his careers in industrial chemistry and teaching, Capen then devoted himself to painting as his full time passion. He now resides with his wife Rosemary on the coast of Central Florida, and spends several months each year at a second home in Green Turtle Cay, Abaco, Bahamas.
Capen is best known for his paintings of natural landscapes. Most of his work is currently being produced in Florida and in the Bahamas Out Islands. Capen’s art has won many awards, and is included in hundreds of private and public collections. . He is an exhibiting member of the American Artist Professional League, Inc., the International Society Of Marine Painters, the Florida Watercolor Society, and the Miami Watercolor Society.
Many corporations, including Disney and Burger King, have added Capen originals to their collections. On three different occasions Capen’s work has been included in the catalog of the “top one-hundred” paintings of the “Art for the Parks” annual contest sponsored by the U.S. National Parks.
In the early 1980’s, because of the overwhelming demand for Capen’s work, he began publishing his art as limited edition prints. Over 70 images have been reproduced in editions of 750 to 1750; many of which have completely sold out.
Capen's works of art that are being sold here are each 24.5 high and 20.5 wide. They are beautifully framed and double matted. Signature on the bottom right is Phil Capen. Date is 1991. The two works are #514/1500 and #583/1500..
Phil Capen's works evoke in us, the sellers, sweet memories of our trips to the Bahamas. less
