Description: Chinese framed porcelain Buddhist temple plaque Bodhisattva Chenrezig, a finely drawn depiction of the four-armed Bodhisattva also know as Avalokiteshvara, … more Chinese framed porcelain Buddhist temple plaque Bodhisattva Chenrezig, a finely drawn depiction of the four-armed Bodhisattva also know as Avalokiteshvara, in black and gold, seated in padmasana on a lotus throne supported by heavenly clouds, with an ornate mandorla and halo, two of his hands pressed together at his heart, holding the wish fulfilling jewel of enlightenment, his upper right hand, holding a crystal mala, or Buddhist rosary, his upper left hand, holding a beautiful lotus flower in full bloom. At the top of the image is a flying fenghuang chasing the pearl of wisdom on the right, and three apsaras with Buddhist implements on the left, all amid swirling clouds and flames. At the bottom of the image, a sea dragon cavorts in swirling ocean waves and spume. All the artwork is done in fine gilt line drawing throughout. The signature, "Minister Ding Guanpeng, respectfully, painting", with three red seal marks, is carved to the lower right. One lare, red oval seal mark is at the upper left of the image. The plaque is mounted in its original, Chinese, hongmu frame, made with fine Chinese joinery and finely carved, stylized dragons and vines on the face, and a bronze hanger. The back is intact and removable. Circa Republic of China era or earlier.
