This details a piece of living-room furniture by renowned austrian designer and architect josef hoffmann (1870–1956) in collaboration with jacob & josef kohn, a furniture manufacturer based in vienna. This set includes a sofa and two armchairs, crafted in both steamed and black-stained wood. The furniture is notable for its distinct vertical bar structures, armrests integrated with the backrests, and a unique horseshoe-shaped base that rests on "skate" feet. Decorative spheres provide additional structural support, giving an ornamental quality to the functional design.
this design, known as the fledermaus series (series t263), was created around 1905–1907 and showcased at the kunstschau wien (vienna art show) in 1908. It is closely related to models 729, 729 f, and 729 c from the j. & j. Kohn catalog, making it an iconic example of early 20th-century viennese design. Hoffmann’s work for j. & j. Kohn embodies the wiener werkstätte's values, combining functionality with aesthetic innovation and a modernist approach to traditional craftsmanship. This piece has an attribution mark,
