This Sonia Delaunay very rare vintage 1990 Modernist lithograph print custom framed extra large Jacques Damase French art Deco poster " Rythem Et Couleur " 1939, is an incredibly special and unique piece to add to your collection.
The Art Deco style French poster print is published by Editions Hazan, Paris, printed in France in 1990 in an unnumbered limited edition. It features an artwork image originally created by Delaunay in 1939 titled " Rythme Et Couleur ", Musee Des Beaux-Arts, Lille, copyright 1990 Jacques Damase.
This is a rare opportunity for Delaunay and Modernism and Art Deco fans and collectors all, as this coveted image extra large poster print is long out of print and very scarce to find.
Sonia Delaunay ( 1885 - 1979 ) born Sarah Llintchna Stern, was a Jewish Russian born French artist, who spent most of her working life in Paris. She was formally trained in Russia and Germany before moving to France and expanding her practice to include textile, fashion, and set design. She co-founded The Orphism Art Movement, known for its strong colors and geometric shapes, with her husband artist Robert Delaunay and others. She was the first living female artist to have a retrospective exhibition at The Louvre Museum in Paris in 1964, and in 1975 was named an officer of The French Legion of Honor. Delaunay's work in Modern design included concepts of Geometric Abstraction, and the integration of furniture, fabrics, wall coverings, and clothing into her oeuvre of practices.
Jacques Damase ( 1930 - 2014 ) was a French publisher, art historian , and venerable gallery owner. He created his publishing house at the age of 17, making him the youngest publisher in the world of the time. He published the works of Jean Cocteau, Jean Paul Satre, Paul Elluard, and Charlie Chaplin. His own books included studies on the art works of Braque, Chagall, Picasso, Calder, Max Ernst, Sonia and Robert Delaunay. Damase is one of the few publishers to have had exhibitions of his books in major international libraries and museums including The Centre Pompidou Paris. His famous gallery in Paris exhibited the artworks of Le Corbusier, Jean Cocteau, Jim Dine, Hans Arp, and Sonia Delaunay among others.
The rare out of print extra large format framed Modernist French poster print measures 40 1/4" W X 40 1/8" H X 1" D.
It is custom framed with UV protective plexiglass in a Contemporary Modern charcoal pewter gray satin finish metal frame molding, with an attached hanging wire on the reverse back side for easy wall installation.
It is in excellent " like new " condition. The poster print is in excellent " like new " clean condition consistent with age and light signs of handling.
