One of the masters of English printing, and perhaps the greatest allegorical artist in modern Western Civilization.
This is a very unusual self-portrait, dated 1764, with Hogarth at the easel facing his Muse of comedy, with a folio of the news of the day close at hand.
An exceptional original print, in truly fine condition.
Original folio notes suggest this was one of Hogarth's most poignant works - the artist showing himself to the world, his central ambition to portray the politics, culture and hypocrisy of the day in a humorous form that all viewers - in all levels of English Society - could understand and enjoy.
Presented in the Gallery style with elegant black molding, museum mat, and a hardwood backing to ensure the document itself is secure.
Presents large at 24" tall by 18.25" wide.
