Anton Schutz (1894–1977) was a German-born American artist, best known for his highly detailed etchings and lithographs that captured the cityscapes. Schutz studied art in Germany and trained at the Munich Academy of Fine Arts, where he honed his skills in etching and drawing. In 1924, he immigrated to the United States, where he became a prominent figure in the American art scene. Schutz founded the New York Graphic Society, which became an important organization for promoting graphic arts and printmaking in the United States. His work often depicted the skyscrapers, bridges, and bustling streets of his adopted city, New York, capturing the city's dramatic perspective and sense of movement. His etchings were highly popular in his time and remain valued for their historical and aesthetic significance today. "New York in Etchings" prints are a fine example of Anton Schutz's work.
