A unique and very curious antique Japanese archaic bronze 'Hu' form cloisonn table lamp with mythical or primitive form birds, beasts and animals. The Meiji Hu-form body is solid bronze, mounted on brass galleried base with stylized elephant handles on either side. The body has blue, white, green and red enamels and fine hexagonal bronze work as the background.
Quite an exceptional design.
The usual pitting in the enamel work is present associated with such old very pieces. Single socket, full working order. We estimate the piece to be late 19th. C (Meiji period).

Height to top of fixture 18.5". Requires a shade with a base of 4".
