Schackerman is an award-winning artist who has had solo exhibitions at the Pavilion Galleries, Mt. Holly; Camden County Cultural and Heritage Commission; Perkins Center for the Arts, Moorestown; Center for the Arts in Southern New Jersey; Camden County Library; Wayne Art Center; Drexel University and Thomas Jefferson University.

His awards include the Edward G. Krause Memorial Award, Center for the Arts in Southern New Jersey, 1985; First Prize, Center for the Arts in Southern New Jersey, 1983; Purchase Award, Camden County Cultural and Heritage Commission, 1979, 1981 and 1982; Honorable Mention, Wayne Art Center, 1982; First Prize, Wayne Art Center, 1982 and First Prize, Willingboro Art Show, 1981.
