This rare vase made from volcanic crushed pumice clay displays the distinctive artistry of celebrated sculptor and ceramic artist Ragnar Kjartansson (1923-1989). Ragnar Kjartansson founded Glit Studio in 1958, along with Einar Eliasson, and Pétur Saemundsen. Known for its unique use of Icelandic clay and natural minerals—especially volcanic lava—Glit Studio became a pioneer in Icelandic ceramic art, creating pieces that capture the rugged beauty of the Icelandic landscape.
This stunning handmade "fat lava" vase showcases the studio's signature textured lava glaze, a hallmark of the brutalist and retro mid-century aesthetic.
