Delicately gilded butterflies decorate this bowl's exterior atop a unique brown glaze. This stunning brown tortoiseshell glaze is not often seen and was most likely achieved through the mixing of orange and green lustres. The mother-of-pearl interior shows an elaborately gilded scarab beetle.

The pattern, identified on the bottom of the vase as Z4830, was one of the first ten lustreware designs issued by Wedgwood between 1914 and 1915. Its introduction corresponded with Daisy becoming a lead designer at the company in 1914.
