Description: This is a vintage Japanese tea chest called Cha Tansu from Taisho period (1910's-1920's). It was constructed out of different … more This is a vintage Japanese tea chest called Cha Tansu from Taisho period (1910's-1920's). It was constructed out of different wood species such as Japanese ash (Tamo) and burl Momiji (Maple).
The fine details incorporated into this piece include glass doors display, fancy wood and various sizes of compartments and drawers.
The tea chest was typically used in a Japanese home in the room similar to the western living room. It was used to keep items for casual tea service as well as storage for an assortment of items for the home. The display area was designed to showcase seasonal or holiday decorative accents such as flower arrangements for the change of season or dolls for Boy's (Children's) Day or Girl's Day festivals.
