Harry Shokler (1896–1978) was an American artist known for his work as a printmaker and painter, particularly in the fields of silkscreen and serigraphy. He was a pioneer in the silkscreen printing technique, helping elevate it from a commercial process to a respected artistic medium. His prints typically depicted scenes from everyday life, rural views, and scenes from New York City, where he lived and worked for much of his life. He was also a respected teacher, and he contributed to popularizing serigraphy among other artists by writing instructional books and teaching workshops. One of his most significant contributions to the art world was his book Artist's Manual for Silkscreen Print Making, which offered guidance to artists interested in the technique. His serigraphs are held in the permanent collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Syracuse Museum of Art, the Carnegie Institute and the Princeton Print Club. His work is known for its vivid colors and careful composition, of which "Vermont Auction" is a classic example.
