Step into the world of maritime history with this breathtaking model of the legendary "Benj. F. Packard." Painstakingly crafted by the esteemed Zakoske Scale Models Ltd. in Hong Kong, this model embodies the fine detail and craftsmanship that Zakoske is known for among maritime collectors. Representing one of the last American square-riggers to round Cape Horn, the Benj. F. Packard was built in 1883 in Bath, Maine, by Goss, Sawyer & Packard, renowned for producing sturdy "Down Easter" cargo vessels.
Historical Significance
The Benj. F. Packard served as a general cargo carrier under Arthur Sewall & Co., transporting goods around the dangerous Cape Horn route for over two decades. In 1908, she was sold to the Northwestern Fisheries Co. of Seattle, where she played an essential role in Alaska's salmon canning trade, carrying supplies and workers to remote canneries. The ship’s storied life ended in 1939 off Eaton's Neck, Long Island, where she was scuttled after serving as an amusement attraction. Known as "the last square-rigger to round the Horn," the Benj. F. Packard remains a symbol of a bygone era in American maritime history.
