This stunning eye catching and functional piece of art/furniture is a rare find. It is made by Alfonso Marina with craftsmanship that has been revived through traditional techniques. The desk has a serpentine front and angled corners. This special piece has an enormous amount of marquetry, not only in the number of pieces but the complexity of organic shapes on every surface. The top, sides, and each drawer front, all have a band surround that gives the illusion of spiraling ribbon wrapping a black line. Inside the surround is a diamond shaped grain pattern. On the corner sides of the desk, the marquetry is of another pattern, a herringbone weave from top to bottom. The upper drawer has a drop down front to turn it into a desk through solid brass hinges on the sides, and inside lies many mini drawers and a center cabinet with a door and a pull out box on either side of it. Each mini drawer and door front have a diamond shaped grain pattern with the beaded band surround. All of the hardware is in antique brass, and each spacious drawer has its own lock and key. The wood finish is antiqued, giving the look and feel of old world and luxury. This is a truly work of art and a statement piece.
