Elegant silver vessel over a boat-shaped ground plan standing on four pilaster feet with crushed spheres at the ends, vertical wall with regular openwork decoration in the form of rhythmically offset, intersecting pointed arches, each with a small coat-of-arms-shaped panel on the front and back below, on top surrounded by a volute decorative band, the rim drawn down towards the centre at the front and back, j-shaped, raised handles applied lengthwise opposite each other on the outside, loose, roof-shaped lid, raised in a truncated cone shape in the centre, with moulded leaves and fruit as handles. Matching blue glass insert. Dimensions: width: 22,0 cm / 8.66 in depth: 9,0 cm / 3.54 in height: 16,0 cm / 6.29 in silver weight: 450 grams / 14.46 troy oz hallmarks: diana head - viennese official hallmark 1872-1922 for 800 silver j.bannert wien - manufacture mark of the josef bannert company founded in vienna in 1863, production of ‘historical style works’ participation in numerous exhibitions, internationally and in the k.k. Austrian museum of art and industry. Bibliography: waltraud neuwirth, viennese gold - and silversmiths and their hallmarks 1867-1922, lexicon a-k, vienna 1976, pages 87-93 condition: very well maintained, silver cleaned and polished, glass completely intact this piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker.
