- "Female Dancer Statue At The Antique Modeling Workshop Michel Caryl Provence" This antique modeling in earth or plaster is from … more "Female Dancer Statue At The Antique Modeling Workshop Michel Caryl Provence" This antique modeling in earth or plaster is from the Michel Caryl Workshop, everything is decorative. It is a beautifully crafted neoclassical decor. Female figure dressed in a chiton belted under the chest and which reveals the right breast. The position of the feet, the twisting of the upper body and the clothing revealing its anatomy allow this figure to be interpreted as a dancing maenad. The statuette is inspired by a famous work by Lysippos, in bronze, created around 320 BC, representing the poet Prassilla, from Sicyone, dancing and playing the flute to accompany her Bacchic songs. It is perhaps the same statue that Pliny describes, Natural History, XXXIV, under the name of the "temulenta tibicina", the drunken aulos player.
