Rare goldscheider vienna ceramic figurine of the 1920s: pierrette with a pageboy head in a colourful costume with a multi-layered balloon skirt reminiscent of a pine cone, standing bent forward and holding her hands together behind her back with her palms turned outwards, a green pointed hat matching her shoes standing next to her on the ground. The figure is based on a cream-coloured, stepped round base. Designed by josef lorenzl (1892 - 1950), was an austrian sculptor and ceramic modeler. His bronze statuettes often show graceful dancers with long legs and closed eyes. Lorenzl designed numerous ceramics for friedrich goldscheider and keramos and was one of the most popular artists of art deco. Model 5316 was created and made circa 1924. Manufactory: goldscheider vienna / austria material & technique: hand-crafted ceramics, white earthenware, hand-painted, glossy finish size: height: 28,5 cm / 11.22 in width: 11,5 cm / 4.52 in depth: 12,0 cm / 4.72 in marks: model number 5316 / 302 / 4 goldscheider wien (vienna) manufactory stamp made in austria / hand-decorated painter's and former's signs existing artist's signature ‘laurenzl’ on top of base behind the figure bibliography: dechant / goldscheider, goldscheider: firmengeschichte und werkverzeichnis / history of the company and catalogue of works, stuttgart (germany), 2007, page 405, number 5316.
