Rare pair of Francis Jourdain Art Deco Side Chairs, France 1910 Fully restored. Francis Jourdain developed a passion for design and architecture at a young age. He studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Bordeaux before moving to Paris to continue his education. Quickly, he became an integral part of the art movements of the time, particularly Art Nouveau and Art Deco. At the beginning of his career, Jourdain focused on creating furniture and functional objects. He was a pioneer of industrial design in France, striving to blend aesthetics and functionality in his designs. His furniture was characterized by simple, clear geometric shapes and the use of materials such as wood, metal, and glass. In addition to his work in furniture design, Francis Jourdain excelled as an interior designer. He designed several interiors for prestigious clients, including hotels, boutiques, and restaurants. His style was marked by a modern and functional approach, while maintaining elegance and a sense of harmony. Francis Jourdain was also a respected writer and art critic. He published several books on design, architecture, and decorative arts, contributing significantly to the promotion and recognition of design in France. His influence endures today, and his designs are considered emblematic examples of early 20th-century French design. Francis Jourdain played a crucial role in the development of design in France and helped establish design as a distinct art discipline. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker.
