Erberto Carboni (1899-1984) was an accomplished Italian artist celebrated for his significant contributions to graphic design, illustration, and poster art. Initially trained as an architect, he transitioned to graphic design early in his career, opening a studio in Parma where he created advertising materials for local businesses.
In 1932, Carboni relocated to Milan, where he collaborated with Studio Boggeri and Olivetti's Advertising and Development Office, refining his skills and expanding his creative horizons. He became renowned for his stand design work at cultural and trade fair exhibitions, including notable projects such as the Italian Air Show at the Triennale di Milano (1934) and the International Expo in Paris (1936).
Throughout his career, Carboni remained active as an illustrator, contributing to publications like "L'Ufficio Moderno," "La Lettura," and "La Rivista illustrata del Popolo d'Italia." His illustrations demonstrated his knack for visual storytelling.
Following World War II, he continued his career in trade fair graphic design, particularly at the Milan Fair, and lent his artistic prowess to advertising campaigns for renowned brands like Olivetti, Shell, Motta, Barilla, Bertolli, and Pavesi.
Carboni's advertising approach was deeply influenced by his background as an illustrator and his expertise in page architecture, cultivated through collaborations with Studio Boggeri and exposure to Bauhaus themes.
