side/end table … in a distinctive HEXAGON design.
‘MERSMAN Tables’ was founded in the 1870s by sawmill owner HB MERSMAN!
And they made MCM tables late into the 1900s…..
This solid wooden table is in outstanding condition; even the inside and underside.
It recently received a complete 10+ hour restoration - cleaned; lightly sanded; stained; and sealed.
The extra heavy door hardware was removed and cleaned and refinished in a copper lacquer finish of 3 coats.
The 4 inch legs were refinished in a deep brown, matching the refinished ‘doors.’
One door is functional … as you face the table … the door on the right … and it hinges well and is solid and heavy as a rock; being over 1 inch thick in solid pieced wood, and faced with a decorative ‘reed weave design’ in a thick poly.
The other “door” is “faux” … on the left … matching the functional door; and it does not hinge. Its door pull matches the other door.
The door hardware is sturdy and quite substantial.
The outside facing of the doors is a composite poly, made to mimic a distinctive reed weave.
The cabinet is made of solid wood and the top insert is a matte finished Formica-like laminate … in very fine condition … in a knotty burl type pattern of deep brown and black swirls.
The 4 inch table legs have centered sliders affixed thereto, that facilitates moving it.
The door opening is 10 inches wide and 15 inches tall.
The functional door works very well, with a magnetic closure.
The wood, believed to be of pine, has impressive grain, originally stained in a rich walnut finish by the manufacturer.
It is believed to of a vintage age from the mid to late 1900s.
It is really solid; weighing some 33 pounds.
A rare and distinctive Mersman table style. less
