An Exceptional Quality Regency Period, 19th Century, Rosewood Occasional Table, Having Fine Quality Brass Pierced Gallery To Square Top, Enclosing Rare Grisaille Painted Rural Scene, In The Manner Of George Morland, Raised On Elegant Spiral Twist And Acanthus Leaf Carved Column Terminating On Quad Form Base with Brass Strung Inlaid Decoration And Superb Original Carved Paw Castors with Original Recessed Castors.
Grisaille, lifted from the french word of gris meaning gray, was very popular in the 15th and 16th centuries and enjoyed somewhat of a renaissance during regency times, especially when it came to the decoration of specific areas of furniture. The top of this table is incredibly unusual and in our opinion very beautifully decorated with a grisaille watercolour in the manner of well known rural scene artist George Morland.
The rest of the table is also of exceptional quality as one would expect, with exceptional rosewood timbers used in its construction and exceptional richly carved decoration. There is also a large amount of brass involved in the table with both brass inlaid decoration and brass mouldings which really add to the elegance of the piece. The brass gallery to the top is extremely good quality and incredibly elegant.
There are a few old marks to the painted top which its almost impossible to remove and can be seen in the images attached, although in person they are barely noticable as the eye is taken simply by how lovely the scene is and how beautiful the table is, and overlal the rest of the table is also in excellent condition.
As with all the items we offer for sale it has been inspected and attended to in our workshops by our well trained and highly skilled, specialist antique furniture restorers and it has received a natural wax polish to ensure it is presented for sale in the absolute best possible condition meaning that it ready for immediate placement within the home.
