The Tokugawa painting was crafted with some Kano School influence by Machi e-shi or town painter. The busy scenes feature a Bagaku performance on the right side in the midst of the sea with 2 monks, a female diety, and sea creature attendants. The left side depicts a boat with figures lowering a female into the raging sea to a dragon. A group of Chinese scholars/officials are accompanying a high-born woman in a cart while viewing a male figure riding on a dragon boat. Crafted with ink and natural pigment colors on hand-crafted paper having gold flecks. Amazing detail and intricate brushwork. From an estate in San Francisco, CA.
