Holiday Gift Idea #2. From 1917-1936, Osa and Martin Johnson set up camps in some of the most remote areas of the world, photographing African game and the wildernesses of Kenya, the Congo, British North Borneo and the Solomon and New Hebrides Islands..Their equipment was the most advanced motion pictures apparatus of the day, some of it designed by Martin Johnson.
The couple's photographs and films documented a wilderness, now vanished, tribal cultures and customs never before seen. Their popular movies, SIMBA (1928) and BABOONA,(1935) and best-selling books, including this one, popularized camera safaris and sparked an interest in African wildlife conservation
Their outstanding accomplishments of the two landed them on Cereal boxes, among other accolades. Their legacy of films, photographs, expedition reports, correspondence and personal memorabilia - are now housed at The Martin and Osa Johnson Museum in Chanute, KS..
Wiith this vintage edition of the original, illustrated book, you can dip into their story, as told by Osa Johnson, after the death of her husband in a plane crash, from which she recovered. The 376-page hardcover, a first edition 1942 from Halcyon House, follows the original 1940 Firist edition by Lippincott. It is in good+ condition - pages are clean, bright and unmarked. The cover and spine are & spine edges are moderately worn as expected in vintage books.. The title is lightly smudged on the cover.
