An exceptionally large wooden tramp art/ folk art frame. There are many variations of tramp art and this frame represents the “crown of thorns” or “puzzle work” as there are layers of intricate small wooden pieces used to construct this frame. The frame consists of 5 layers which is rarely encountered. Tramp art was usually made out of cigar boxes by itinerant artisans. This piece was probably made in the late 1800’s/ early 1900’s.
The frame is in excellent condition with only a few missing pieces.
