Lovely James Baillie hand-colored lithograph of The Vase of Flowers in a wooden frame with aged patina.
"These prints became popular as lithography was introduced to 19th Century Americans. As a new art form, it was affordable for the masses. They are a pictorial record of our romanticized past."
"James Baillie started as a framer in 1838, and then became an artist and lithographer in 1843. He discovered how to color lithographs while working as an independent contractor for Currier & Ives."
Artist name- H Bulchozer. Documentation at bottom of print reads "Entered according to Act of Congress in the year 1848 by J. Baillie, in the clerk's office, in the District Court of the Southern District of New York. Published by J. Baillie 87th St near 3rd Avenue."
