Cake Slices, 1996. Wayne Thiebaud (1920-2021) is at his best in this incredible, almost edible, example of late-century pop art. Thiebaud donated this painting to the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art to commemorate the new location on Third Street downtown.
Beautiful black wood frame with lovely double matting. Offset lithograph polychrome poster housed in a wooden frame with plexiglass.
Dimensions: 32.5" wide x 38.5" high (inches).
Comes with two Paul Thiebaud Gallery exhibition posters from the early 2000s. Both are 12.25" wide x 16" high.
Artist Bio: Born in Arizona, in 1920, Thiebaud moved to California in his youth. A student of commercial art, he spent several years as a professional cartoonist at the Walt Disney Studios and elsewhere before moving on to teach art. Thiebaud's knowledge of and respect for commercial illustration greatly informed his subsequent work, which is marked by its formal geometric order and clearly defined forms. He is represented in major galleries worldwide. His art sells for seven and eight figures regularly. He's just that good. less
