Gigi Sabadin (1930-2016) was an Italian designer celebrated for his innovative and refined lighting and furniture designs, especially during the mid-20th century. Starting his career in the 1950s, Sabadin collaborated with major Italian design firms like Artemide, Flos, and Stilnovo. He was known for his minimalist aesthetic and use of non-traditional materials, including aluminum, glass, and Plexiglas, which he skillfully integrated into elegant, functional designs for both public and private spaces.
One of Sabadin’s most notable achievements was winning the prestigious Compasso d’Oro award in 1962, recognizing his impact on Italian design. His designs, such as the “Arca” chair for Crassevig, which received honorable mention at the 1979 Compasso d’Oro selection, have become collector’s items and are featured in exhibitions and design museums worldwide. Sabadin’s work is highly regarded for its blend of artistry and craftsmanship, particularly his use of wood and innovative plywood techniques. less
