The round top shows an … more Very unusual Antique American Victorian sewing table made of walnut and patent dated July18th. 1871. The round top shows an unusual "dovetail" type of construction with a flip top door which can be opened from the underneath the outside edge allowing access to several individual storage compartments. The top revolves to allow access. In the center of the top is an attached spindle which holds a revolving holder for 6 spools of thread and I believe at the top of this was originally a fabric pin cushion. This unscrews, however the wooden threads are badly worn and there really isnt a reason to undo it except to load the spools of thread. The base of this is stamped with "Patented July 18, 1871". The entire top is attached to the base with a wooden screw which screws into a posts in the center of the base. The threads are badly worn on both parts so the top will lift right off the base. The top functions as it should when its in place so no worries there it would just be when moving. Several of the turned finials below the top are replaced but do match the original ones. Table retains its original finish which does show some wear mainly on the top. Table stands 27 1/2" tall to the top of the "work surface" and the top is 19 1/2" diameter. The Thread holder adds another 6 1/4" to the height. less
