It is cross … more This is a 19th century American needlework alphabet sampler made by schoolgirl Mary Wallace Wells of Pennsylvania. It is cross stitch in silk thread on a linen ground. The stitches are worked in beige, green and red threads. Mary stitched her name in green thread at the bottom of the sampler along with the date Nov 27. Dimensions are: 17" by 10."It is unframed and will be shipped gently packed in acid free paper. It has been wet cleaned to restore the ph balance and it is surprisingly sturdy. There is a small hole (see images) and a tear along the bottom right side.
