Artist: Francis Bacon
About The Artist:
Despite his bleak existentialist outlook, solidified in the public mind through his articulate and vivid series of interviews, Bacon in person was highly engaging and charismatic, articulate, well-read and openly gay. He was a prolific artist, but nonetheless spent many of the evenings of his middle age eating, drinking and gambling in London with like-minded friends.
A recent article in the UK Guardian recounted a story that for an exhibition in the 1980s, Bacon was so rushed by his agent to finish his paintings that many were still wet when hung, resulting in large dry cleaning bills for unsuspecting clients who had the temerity to lean against the canvases!
